Text Marketing vs Email Marketing

An article on iMedia Connection showcased how the Canadian Anti-Spam Law has affected traditional marketing strategies in Canada. Due to the strict anti-spam regulations designed to drive spammers out of Canada, all Canadian companies have to obtain a new and updated opt-in form for every email address that ends in .ca.

In the end, one company, atsMobile, decided that it would be easier to obtain new opt-in forms via its SMS database, guaranteeing that all its records would be 100% accurate. It also meant that it could easily track which text messages came from Canadian area codes and be completely compliant with CASL .

What do you think from reading this? Do you have an opinion on text marketing vs email marketing? Do you agree that SMS marketing is a safer way to ensure data lists are in compliance with CASL? Have any of you had difficulties with CASL?
