Exclaimer Cloud is officially celebrating its five-year anniversary, marking an important milestone for our company. Based on our experience utilizing Microsoft Exchange Server and Outlook for on-premises environments, we saw the huge potential in expanding our email signature management solutions into the cloud. This decision was to lead Exclaimer to an exceptional period of company growth.
From On-Prem to the Cloud: The Genesis of Exclaimer Cloud
Exclaimer Cloud was born in 2015, as one of the very first Microsoft 365 email signature management solutions. At the time, we were primarily known for providing email signature software for Microsoft Exchange and Outlook. In fact, we actually built the first ever email signature solution all the way back in 2001. These products, which we still sell, enable companies to centrally manage corporate email signatures efficiently, delivering consistent branding, promotions, disclaimers and compliance statements, while substantially cutting admin overheads.
However, by 2015, it was becoming very clear that many organizations were moving away from on-premises server hardware and migrating to the cloud. The rapid growth of Microsoft 365 in particular meant we needed to adapt to this fundamental shift in the IT landscape.
Our goal was to research and develop a dedicated Microsoft 365 version of our email signature software, having it function as a value-added solution for IT, marketing and compliance professionals. This meant fundamentally rethinking our software development processes and not relying on past successes. We needed to bring something completely new to the market. This meant taking full advantage of the natural scalability and reliability of Microsoft Azure.
By utilizing the Azure platform, we were able to access technologies such as automatic failovers and load balancers. Therefore, this would allow our new Microsoft 365 solution to work across thousands of Azure servers worldwide. By choosing the right architecture to work with, we would easily be able to scale our email signature management solution. In addition, this would ensure reliability that would give us a 99.9% service uptime.
The Success of Exclaimer Cloud: A True Game Changer and Growth Driver
The first iteration, named Exclaimer Cloud – Signatures for Office 365, quickly proved a major success. It was named as one of the ‘6 Best Innovations’ at the Microsoft World Partner Conference, putting it in the same category as Microsoft’s Cortana Analytics Suite.
Customer uptake was rapid, with many customers and partner praising this evolution of email signature management. Reviews of Exclaimer Cloud were also extremely positive, particularly from the Microsoft MVP community. Most importantly, within less than a year, the uptake of Exclaimer Cloud had overtaken our on-premises software. After that, it started making up the overwhelming majority of our sales. Further iterations of the solution came in the form of Exclaimer Cloud – Signatures for G Suite and Exclaimer Cloud – Signatures for Exchange (for hybrid Exchange users) in 2018 and 2020 respectively.
